Still damp. This is the shape the range is for.

Shorter than the routines you have been sold.

A curly hair routine fails when it is a pile of bottles. People who work with curls talk about how dry the hair gets, and how fast it drinks product, before they talk about a curl chart. Secret of Curls is built around that.

Wash day stays short. The days after use water and a little oil, not a new product for Tuesday. Longer notes will live in the journal. Prices will live on the shop, and only once a formula is finished.

A curly hair routine in wash-day order.

The first curly hair products in the range are a sulfate-free cream cleanser, a rinse-out conditioner, a leave-in moisturizer, a curl cream, a defining gel, and a seal oil.

  1. Cream cleanser

A wash without sulfates, for the days your scalp actually needs one. Wet hair does not need a squeak.

  2. Rinse-out conditioner

Slip, so you can detangle without pulling the curl apart.

  3. Leave-in moisturizer

Water-based moisture on soaking hair. This is the step most curly hair is thirsty for.

  4. Curl cream or defining gel

Cream when you want softness. Gel when you want the curl to last. Use one. Add the second only if you already know you need it.

  5. Seal oil

A few drops on dry ends, usually on the second day. Not a palmful on the scalp.

Questions

What is Secret of Curls?

Secret of Curls is an upcoming brand making a short range of curly hair products. Nothing is for sale yet. The first formulas are a cream cleanser, a rinse-out conditioner, a leave-in moisturizer, a curl cream, a defining gel, and a seal oil.

What curly hair products are in the first range?

The first range is six products: a sulfate-free cream cleanser, a rinse-out conditioner, a leave-in moisturizer, a curl cream, a defining gel, and a seal oil. You pick the curl cream or the gel on wash day. You do not need both.

What curly hair routine are you building?

Wash day is a cleanse, a conditioner, a leave-in, and one styler. Between washes, the plan is water and a few drops of oil on dry ends. The routine is meant to replace a drawer of bottles, not add another step to one.

Is this only for one curl type?

No. A curl chart is a weak way to choose products. How dry your hair gets, and how fast it drinks product, matters more. We will say which textures each formula suits when the formulas are finished.

Will the products be sulfate-free?

The cream cleanser is being made without sulfates. Full ingredient lists will be published with each formula, in words, not only on a bottle photo.

When can I buy?

There is no launch date. People who email the list hear before the shop opens. There is no queue number and no discount code yet.

Where will the journal live?

The journal will be a Ghost publication. This site will link to it when the first pieces are up. Until then, the journal page on this site says what those pieces will cover.

Hear before the shop opens.

We write to the list before the first formulas go on sale. There is no queue number, and there is no discount we have not made.
